Goodwood Supercar Sunday -  May 1st 2011

The Goodwood ‘SuperCar Sunday Breakfast’ is justifiably one of Goodwood’s biggest Sunday events and on May 1st QuickSilver lorded it down to Goodwood at the crack of dawn to join in. The event ‘starts’ at 8:00, we arrived at 7:30 and the grid was already full and the line of cars to get in half a mile long. Don’t these people go out on a Saturday night?

The entry to Goodwood’s grid & infield is administered arbitrarily by the stewards, much like night-club bouncers. As you approach from the street, if they like the look of you, you are admitted to the main circuit, otherwise you join the hoi-polloi in the field. There is then a second selection where only the ‘best’ get a paddock or coveted grid slot - we noticed that most Porsche’s were being sent to the public car parks.

In keeping with the theme we arrived in a QuickSilver-equipped Bentley Continental GT and were awarded a paddock spot alongside probably the biggest selection of Supercars in one place. A significant proportion of all Koenigseggs built were there, the same for Jaguar XJ220s (some QS-equipped) – red Ferrari’s were common.   Six Deloreans all together - Synchronising flux capacitors.

Some manufacturers use this event to promote their vehicles and this Sunday the new McLaren MC12 had pole position.  There were also new cars from Pagani and Koenigsegg and the Lexus LFA was on the grid surrounded by film crews and marketing folk. The LFA was started up every 30 minutes and it’s high revving V10 engine sounded brilliant but just too quiet – Playstation with the volume turned right down.

There is a good Breakfast, with fresh bacon from Goodwood’s farms and a proper cup of tea.  As usual, by 11:00 people are drifting off to a warm afternoon- you can have too much.

QuickSilver would love to hear from fellow owners who frequent these events come and say hello if you see us out and about!
